New employment residence permit applicants in select professions must now attend an awareness session on labour regulations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), before their employment contract is approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
This new requirement is in line with the opening of a number of ‘Tawjeeh’ service centres, designated by the MOHRE to offer guidance on rights and responsibilities of employers and employees prior to any contractual engagement. The process, however, does not apply to workers sponsored by companies in free zones.

02. Details of the awareness session?The awareness training involves a 1.5-hour classroom session with an informative video on UAE employment regulations, displayed in 16 different languages. Upon completing the training, attendees will be issued their labour contract and a mobile phone SIM card. The latter is meant to facilitate communication between the worker and the MOHRE.
